CAREER OPPORTUNITY

An exciting opportunity exists for a Technical Lead to join the IT Department. This position is based in Centurion.

ROLE PURPOSE

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Technical Lead will take technical ownership of the Websure Plus platform and lead its evolution towards Brolink’s target Automated Operating Model (AOM).

The successful candidate will first develop a detailed understanding of the existing Websure Plus architecture, business domains, integrations, data structures, operational processes, and delivery constraints. They will then define and guide the transition towards a secure, scalable, API-enabled, and AI-assisted insurance technology platform.

This is a hands-on architecture and technical leadership role. It requires someone who can work closely with developers, testers, business analysts, product owners, Scrum Masters, operations teams, insurance specialists, and external technology partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Websure Plus architecture ownership

• Build a comprehensive understanding of the current Websure Plus solution, including its business domains, applications, services, databases, integrations, and infrastructure.
• Document the current architecture, technical dependencies, constraints, risks, and areas of accumulated technical debt.
• Establish clear architecture ownership within Brolink and reduce dependency on individuals or external parties for critical system knowledge.
• Ensure architecture decisions support Websure Plus as Brolink’s strategic insurance system of record.

Target architecture and roadmap

• Define the target architecture for Websure Plus and the transition roadmap required to reach it.
• Guide the modernisation of the platform without creating unnecessary operational or customer risk.
• Develop reusable architectural patterns for applications, APIs, integrations, data, security, deployment, and observability.
• Ensure that architecture decisions balance scalability, maintainability, security, performance, cost, and speed of delivery.
• Maintain architecture decision records and ensure that material technical decisions are understood and approved.

AOM and applied AI.

• Work with Brolink’s AI-skilled developers to identify and prioritise appropriate AI use cases.
• Design the architecture required to support AI-assisted requirements analysis, software development, testing, documentation, and operational support.
• Evaluate the appropriate use of large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, and related technologies.
• Establish technical controls for data protection, model access, evaluation, auditability, human approval, and production release.
• Ensure AI is applied to clearly defined business and delivery problems rather than introduced as a standalone technology experiment.
• Keep accountability for production decisions with appropriately authorised people.

API and integration architecture

• Define the API and integration architecture connecting Websure Plus with brokers, insurers, service providers, and other systems.
• Support the development of controlled, reusable business-facing API products.
• Ensure external integrations do not create uncontrolled access to the Websure Plus core platform or its data.
• Establish standards for API security, versioning, monitoring, documentation, and lifecycle management.

Engineering and delivery enablement

• Work directly with development teams to translate architecture into implementable technical designs.
• Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership during development, testing, migration, and production implementation.
• Strengthen DevSecOps, automated testing, code quality, security scanning, observability, and release automation.
• Review critical solution designs and code where required.
• Coach senior and emerging technical leaders so that architectural knowledge is distributed across the team.

Data and migration architecture

• Define patterns for product, policy, customer, and financial-data migration.
• Ensure migration processes provide reconciliation, traceability, validation, and controlled rollback.
• Establish appropriate data ownership, retention, quality, access, and protection controls.
• Support the migration of legacy and existing customer platforms onto Websure Plus.

Security, resilience, and compliance

• Ensure solutions are designed with security, privacy, resilience, and auditability from the outset.
• Incorporate POPIA, insurance-sector governance and cyber-resilience requirements into solution designs.
• Define architecture requirements for identity, access control, encryption, logging, monitoring, backup, recovery, and business continuity.

ADVANTAGOUS

• Short-term insurance, insurance administration, InsurTech or financial-services experience.
• Understanding of policy administration, product configuration, underwriting, claims, billing, finance and broker or insurer integrations.
• Applied AI experience within software engineering or business-process automation.
• Experience designing AI solutions using large language models, retrieval, agents, evaluation frameworks, and human approval controls.
• Experience working with regulated South African financial institutions.
• Experience leading architecture across internal teams and third-party technology providers.
• Although Brolink is a Microsoft led environment, AWS exposure is advantageous.

TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT

The Websure Plus technology environment includes:

• React and TypeScript front-end applications.
• C# and .NET services
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Microsoft Azure
• Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• REST APIs and third-party integrations.
• Automated unit, API, integration, and user-interface testing
• Insurance product, underwriting, policy, claims, and finance capabilities
• Legacy system and customer-data migrations
• AI-assisted development using tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code
• Emerging use of large language models, retrieval, and AI agents

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant degree with subjects related to Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering and/ or IT or equivalent demonstrable professional experience.
• Certifications will support the application but will not replace evidence of practical delivery experience.

Preferably, in addition to the above:

• Microsoft Azure/AWS developer or architecture certification is advantageous.
• Relevant AI, cloud, security, or DevOps certification is advantageous.
• A formal qualification in the short-term insurance industry, e.g. Certificate of Proficiency Work Experience

Required experience.

• At least six years of professional software-development experience.
• Experience operating at Senior Developer, Technical Lead, Solution Architect, Software Architects, or equivalent role.
• Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET, and relational databases.
• A strong hands-on software development background, preferably involving C# and .NET.
• Experience designing and evolving complex enterprise or transaction-processing platforms.
• Practical Microsoft Azure architecture and delivery experience.
• Experience with modern web applications, APIs, integration patterns, relational databases, and distributed systems.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, application security, and production observability.
• Experience modernising existing platforms while continuing to support live customers.
• Experience with complex data and customer migrations.
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly to executives, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
